• What is Nationwide 4x4?

Nationwide 4x4 is a leading training organisation for the land-based sector. We specialise in 4x4 off-road driving, but also offer expert training in range of heavy-duty vehicles and machinery as used by the different land-based industries.   Founded in 1995 by Director and Chief Instructor, Selwyn Kendrick, Nationwide 4x4 is a LANTRA Awards approved training provider.

Nationwide 4x4 is a major organiser of off-road motor sporting activities within the UK. We are actively involved in numerous 4x4 events including the National Off Road Show, the Farmers Weekly 4x4 Exhibition and the What Van Live event, as well as various 4x4 Hill Rallies and other shows.  In addition, the company currently holds the prestigious RAC Motor Sports Association contract to organise and run the British Off-Road Championships.

• Why is training necessary?

In recent years, new legislation, stringent health & safety requirements, escalating maintenance costs, and the demands of insurance companies - plus an overall desire to improve the longevity of vehicles and other operating equipment - have made recognised standards and professional training a necessity within the land-based sector. These days employers must ensure that everyone who uses or supervises equipment use has received adequate instruction.  It is vital that all such employees possess a valid certificate or other documentation showing that they have been trained to the appropriate level in the appropriate area.

• What types of professional training does Nationwide offer?

Although we specialise in 4x4 training, Nationwide 4x4 also offers technical training and assessment on a range of machinery and equipment to cater for the different requirements of the UK's land-based industries. In addition to 4x4 vehicles, our course areas include all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), lift trucks, chainsaws, tractors and loaders, trailer reversing, abrasive wheels, brushcutters and trimmers, cranes, small plant 360s, dumpers, rough terrain masted or telescopic, ride-on rollers, mowers, quad machines and company cars.

• Are there any less formal courses for those who just want a taste of off-roading?

• How many people are there on a training course?

Nationwide 4x4 is happy to arrange training for individuals, groups and organisations, from beginners to experienced drivers.  Depending on the requirements of the client and the number of people wanting to do the course, instruction can be on a one-to-one or several to-one basis.

• Tell me more about Nationwide's corporate training...

Our portfolio of clients speaks highly of our training standards and capabilities.  Amongst others, we have been involved in training the Blue Light emergency brigades, the main utility companies (electricity, water and gas), and several leading television companies, including the BBC and S4C. • Who are Nationwide's instructors?

Nationwide's instructors and supervisors are highly experienced individuals who are dedicated to their sport. Their professional approach is highly respected within the UK's training and instruction industry and has played a major role in establishing the credibility and success of Nationwide 4x4.

Our instructors work closely with students to develop each individual's skills, techniques and knowledge, and endeavour to make each course enjoyable as well as educational. • Where does training take place?

Nationwide 4x4 is based in South Wales and practical training is usually carried out on one of three LANTRA Awards-certified sites. These are situated at Builth Wells (Powys), Clyro (Powys), or Seven Sisters (Mid-Glamorgan). Accommodation can be arranged in local venues local to suit the size and budget of the group or individual.
